The Process of Porting & Flowing Cylinder Heads

IMG_0260.JPG

My cylinder head porting will provide a variety of options to you for improving the performance of your motorcycle. The basic principle is to get the air to flow through your intake and exhaust system in manner that will allow your bike to preform at it's best whether it's stock or modified.

My porting style allows you to decide how you want your motorcycle to perform in conjunction with your riding style. I will discuss the various options with you prior to your commitment to buy so that we are on the same page as to what you want to accomplish. Check out the information in this category to see how the porting is accomplished. Then take a look at some of the graphs on the "Testimonials" page to help you get a better idea of just a few of the many options available. As you will see, the performance can vary considerably.

The point is I will provide you with the best air flow and suggest other modifications that will compliment your riding style.

When your cylinder heads arrive, I log them in and disassemble them. After disassembly everything is cleaned and measured  to insure all parts are within factory specs. I will remove and install the intake guide. I will replace it with a performance brass valve guide and a hi-tulip intake valve. These valves are stainless steel and nitrate coated for protection against unleaded gas.  I will also set the valve springs to insure the correct valve lift and spring pressures to accomodate your cam choice.

Now that I have all the information, I start removing material inside the port to assist the head in flowing more air to the motor. Porting is not really complicated, but knowing where and how much to cut is. When I have the porting done and the head flows within my tolerances, I weld & contour a little onto the floor of the port which raises the velocity of the port to more acceptable port velocity.

When the porting and flowing are done, I use a formed tool cutter to put the valve seat in, verify my flow numbers on the flow bench & check the velocity. All done....

Now I clean and assemble the heads making them ready to ship and install on the bike. When you recieve the heads there will be nothing left to do except to install them and enjoy the increased power.
