Throttle Body Upgrades

       As we all know the key to making big power is "AIR". The more air the better. The first obstacle that air will face in it's voyage to your combustion chamber is the air cleaner. The air cleaner should be as big as possible and be free flowing. In my opinion, the best air cleaners are made by K&N. Now that the air has an unrestricted passage through the air cleaner the next problem is the throttle body. The throttle bodies on all Harley Davidson models are too small to make good power. Don't get me wrong, the stock unit does work as evidenced by an increasing number of long distance riders. It's not hard to see Harley Davidson owners with over 100,000 miles on their bikes these days. The fact is that those bikes would run better with a bigger throttle body installed which brings me to the reason for this article, bigger throttle bodies.
I offer a service where I can take your existing Harley Davidson throttle body and enlarge it to flow more air. It is basically a simple job of removing the throttle blade and shaft, setting it up in a milling machine and making the hole bigger. All Harley Davidson throttle bodies are capable of being bored out to a larger size. The question is how big do I need it ?? There lies the first of a series of questions that'll have to be discussed with your engine and riding style in mind. There are just too many factors to give a pat answer that will satisfy everyone. What I can tell you is what I do to the throttle bodies to improve them. The first thing is to bore them to the appropriate size. Then I like to go in and smooth out all the rough areas and blend everything. Then I use some super high tech epoxy and I add a little bit here and their to make the throttle body flow even more air at higher port speeds (velocity). When it is all said and done you will have a complete air induction system where every possible advantage has been taken into consideration for maximum flow and velocity for "YOUR" particular riding style whether it be flat out racing, cutting the corners on some back roads or just traveling the highways.
One of the benefits of using my throttle bodies is a nice crisp throttle response and better fuel mileage. That's right, you can have both a great running motor that makes great power and good fuel mileage. This modification is not only for modified bikes, but works great on the stock bikes as well.

Here is a typical graph showing the difference in flow between a stock throttle body, (light colored line)  and one of my modified ones.  Impressive gain for such a low price.  This flow comparison was done on a ported cylinder head.
